Digital Thermometer Procedures

  1. Sanitize the calibrating and repair area freeing the table of any dirt or stray chemicals.

  2. Set-up and calibrate (on site/mail in) with reference thermometer traceable to Comark. Allow to adjust to room temp.

  3. Ice Point Method:
    • Mix thoroughly crushed ice in distilled water=60% ice and 40% water in glass beaker
    • If the mixture does not reach 32 degrees F add more ice
    • Mix for 1 minute, let sit for 5 minutes
    • Place Reference Thermometer Probe in mixture-stir for 30 seconds, take reading and reference temperature
    • Probe can not touch bottom of cup
    • Probe should be immersed 2.5 inches
    • Place probe to be calibrated and serviced in mixture (probes should not touch)
    • Take reading

  4. Boiling Point Method
    • Place distilled water in glass container and boil
    • Once boiling, place reference thermometer in boiling water
    • Boiling point temperatures in relation to Altitude:
      • Sea Level = 212 degrees F
      • 2,000 ft = 208 degrees F
      • 4,000 ft = 204 degrees F
      • 6,000 ft = 201 degrees F
      • 8,000 ft = 197 degrees F
      • 10,000 ft = 194 degrees F
    • Place probe to be calibrated and serviced in mixture (probes should not touch)
    • Take reading
